The majority of us in the wholesale and retail fashion industry see those waves in our sales charts with the summer usually being in the valley. Well here is something flying under the radar that you do not want to inform your competition about. Wholesale hats are picking up steam this season and have been on a steady rise.
In the wholesale business we see trends developing because retailers nationwide start increasing orders in certain accessories. This can be a fad or it may be a trend and trends are very important to us since they are long-term. Fads really are a flash within the pan-usually beneficial to one season-but trends develop with small movements that come together for wide acceptance and rise and fall spanning a long time, often a decade.
Well bulk hats appear to be undergoing this trend development. 3 years ago cowboy hats was a fashion statement and designed to a frenzy level. They’ve return to earth just a little, but are still an excellent item with increased wholesale cowboy hats shipping than any other hat category.
Next over the last few seasons the runways showed models wearing much more hats. By the spring preview shows for 2008, it became this type of statement that nearly every fashion reporter needed to notice and reply to it.
Hollywood and the music world will also be in the act with celebrities and performers more than ever decked in hats-far more than we saw two years ago. They make a massive impression on the young who are following the style of the heavens.
Fashion magazines are giving hats more coverage also-sometimes a full page on specific hats likes fedoras. Including the ads are onboard with models wearing hats.
All of this is building into something far greater than a summer fad. A trend is building that could maintain for the following many years. So this is the time to begin staking your ground because the “hat place” in your area and the summer time is the time to start because hats peak in summer to assist fill in the valley on your own sales chart.
Maybe hats are new to you so you should know which wholesale hats to get. Let’s start out with the wholesale hats which can be near the top of their game right now. This season nothing compares to wide brims and cowboy hats. These two hat categories will account for longer than 60% in the casual hat business. Thank Ralph Lauren for promoting gorgeous wide brim hats on the spring runways. Five inch rims are great, but super-widebrims (6 inches or even more) would be the statement fashion magazines are hyping and the Kentucky Derby saw oodles of those gracing the celebrities. These hats flatter a look a lot, women almost forget about the sun protection the hats provide. Natural is most beneficial, but colors are far too good to disregard-especially white, ivory, and black.
Now for your American icon-the cowboy hat. Don’t write the obituary on these super-cool hats that add character and individualism to some look with all the simple addition of any hat. Natural or distressed straws in shapeable cowboy hats with rolled brims do best. The amount of celebrities have we seen in that appear to be? Celebrities actually kicked off the cowboy hat craze with Britney and J-Lo turning up in straw rolled brims and after that everyone had to have one. The plethora of cowboy hats has so many options that there is one thing jbocge everyone, but teenagers are the biggest market. Don’t concern yourself with cowboy hats. They are just like the pink bunny that just keeps going and going.
For shops serving young adults, fedoras and newsboys really are a must. Not many sun protection here-but a lot of personality. Fedoras and newsboys are celebrity favorites with TV and magazines providing them with gobs of exposure. Wholesale hats shipping this year include plenty of newsboys during the summer time bright colors of yellow, orange, and apple green. Basics like white and black can also be good along with patterns of pinstripes and polka dots. Fedoras are a bit more toned down with white, brown, and black the best.
Other casual hats will also be good like kettle shapes with an upturned brim and the ones Gone-with-the-Wind looks in braid-and-sewn straw, however the four key hats we centered on catch 75% or more of wholesale hats that are selling so pay attention to them first. Please keep this, well…beneath your hat…so all our competition doesn’t really know what we’re up to.
